CSR Initiatives for the Year FY 22-23

For the Year, 2022-23 as a part of Corporate Social responsibility, Sharp has been undertaking Initiatives in the areas of Poverty, Malnutrition, Eradicating Hunger, Promotion of Education, Environmental Sustainability, Slum Area Development & Maintaining Ecological Balance.

INITIATIVE #1

SHARP by using Miyawaki Technique, sustainability project, created Native Urban Forest Ecosystems and planted 2247 saplings at Nangali Delhi NCR to improve air Quality, Noise & Dust Reduction, Biodiversity, Soil Restoration, and Carbon Sequestration.

SHARP Miyawaki Plantation Project in Nangli is a highly effective for urban afforestation in Delhi. Its ability to promote faster growth and greater density, biodiversity, climate resilience, improved air quality, and carbon sequestration makes it a valuable tool for creating a more livable and sustainable Delhi. A total of 2247 saplings were planted, and the land was selected in consultation with Delhi Metro Authorities. The method takes its inspiration directly from processes and diversity in nature: 30 to 40 different species of trees and shrubs are planted together. Some core Miyawaki plantation benefits which make it effective for urban forestry are Rapid Growth and Biodiversity, Soil Restoration, Carbon Sequestration and Air Quality Improvement, Noise and Dust Reduction & Sustainable Urban Development.

INITIATIVE #2

SHARP, in association with SELCO Foundation, installed 150 Solar Street lights in Rural Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Bihar. This eco-friendly initiative positively impacted 500 individuals, reducing carbon footprints, and illuminating lives with sustainable solutions.

In FY22, our CSR initiative focused on clean energy solutions, leaving a remarkable impact on various fronts. The implementation of solar home lighting systems resulted in a significant reduction of 4.345 tCO2 per year, advancing our commitment towards carbon neutrality and climate action, showcasing our dedication to environmental sustainability. Beyond the environmental benefits, the adoption of reliable solar lighting had a profound impact on education and empowerment. Children in beneficiary households experienced improved academic performance, as they could now study even during nighttime hours. This access to education not only brightened their future but also strengthened the community’s sense of empowerment as they actively contributed to climate action through renewable energy adoption. The program provided clean and affordable energy access to 150 households, positively impacting approximately 500 individuals. Reduced monthly expenditure on energy further alleviated financial burdens, fostering economic growth within the communities.

INITIATIVE #3

Sharp has made impact to 1356 children by providing basic education to mainstream children of socio-economically weaker Tribal & Rural section of society through 30 Ekal Vidyalayas in Rajasthan, Gujrat, Punjab, Tamilnadu & Uttar Pradesh

SHARP in partnership with Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad established 30 Ekal Vidlayas in high illiteracy regions- Bijnor, Chittorgarh, Ramanathapuram, Mahisagar, and Taran Taran. Over 1356 children in the age group of 6-14 years benefited, illuminating a path of knowledge, hope, and transformation for these underserved communities. Education empowers, and together, we’re shaping a brighter future.

INITIATIVE #4

Continued supporting the cause of hunger-stricken communities across India by distributing nutritious food to 7,500 urban poor children across Mumbai in association with the Roti Foundation.

This initiative was activated from August 2022 to March 2023 to support the cause of hunger among children from underprivileged and marginalized communities in urban areas. SHARP, in collaboration with Roti Foundation, served nutritious food to 7500 beneficiaries across Mumbai. Urban poor children were the focus of this initiative. Supplementing healthy food is very important for the holistic development and growth of children and that, in turn, helps in nation-building.

INITIATIVE #5

Sharp has continued maintenance support for FY22, in restoring the green ecosystem for 1,000 saplings planted in the Gairatpur Bas, Delhi NCR to make a positive impact on the environment in association with Sankalp Taru Foundation.

As part of wanting to create a positive impact on the environment Sharp Corporation in collaboration with SankalpTaru Foundation initiated a Community Land Plantation Program On March 25, 2022, A total of 1000 tree saplings were planted. A variety of native trees species of heavy foliage variety, along with fruit and flowering trees were planted under this activity. We continued support for the year FY22. These trees would contribute to the efforts of environmental conservation and restoration by producing approximately 12324 tons* of oxygen, sequestration of approximately 6430 tons* of carbon and also increasing the ground water level by approximately 45 feet*.

SHARP has always been vocal about the bigger aspects of life and the greater needs of the world. We fulfil it through technological innovation and a serious commitment beyond borders!

As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility in India, SHARP has undertaken several society-transforming and life-changing initiatives in the areas of Education, Carbon Neutrality, Health, Hunger, Empowerment of Women, Gender Equality, Eradication of Poverty and Arts & Culture. For the Financial Year 2021-22, the focus was on Reducing Carbon Footprints and creating an inclusive development model towards integrated action against Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality, Education, Health and Hunger.

INITIATIVE #1

SHARP contributed to installing 100 solar home lighting systems in urban slums of Bangalore, partnering with SELCO Foundation to reduce carbon footprints.

Every six urban Indians live in slums unfit for human habitation. With the spread of Covid-19, now they are even more vulnerable due to the unhygienic environment and high population density. SHARP, along with SELCO Solar has identified and implemented the project in 2 such clusters (100 households in total) in Pune (50 houses) & Bangalore (50 houses) to transform the lives of underprivileged communities. The expected carbon reduction is 4.424 MT of CO2 per year.

INITIATIVE #2

We provided basic education to socio-economically weaker Tribal & Rural sections of society, benefiting 1,325 children through 50 “Ekal Vidyalayas” in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Tamil Nadu & Uttar Pradesh.

India is predominantly populated by rural communities. A large portion of such rural population is tribal and located in remote areas. Providing basic primary education in these villages enables them to understand the importance of education in life and also gives them access to further higher education. SHARP has identified 1325 children in the age group of 6 to 14 and supported Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad to open a Total of 50 Ekal Vidyalayas in 5 districts – 10 each in Jalore (Rajasthan), Aravalli (Gujarat), Taran (Punjab), Ramanathapuram (Tamil Nadu), and Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) as part of our CSR activities.

INITIATIVE #3

Took care of malnutrition challenges to 2,000 marginalized families residing in the Delhi-NCR region, especially urban-poor women of all age groups with the support of Every Infant Matters.

SHARP, in association with Every Infant Matters, supported 2000 marginalised families who were labourers, domestic servants, drivers, sweepers, beggars, domestic workers, and slum dwellers. The aim was to prevent diseases, disabilities and deaths in women and children through a holistic programme and distribution of protein and iron-rich food items to promote health, prevent anaemia, and prevent childhood stunting.

This project was executed in the slums of Delhi-NCR, with the help of 10 community health workers who distributed 1000 bags of protein-rich food, under the guidance of a nutritionist and paediatrician, each containing non-perishable, iron-rich items. In addition, they distributed multivitamins to 500 families from the slums of Noida and 500 families from other parts of Delhi-NCR.

INITIATIVE #4

INITIATIVE #5

Put our sincere efforts into restoring the green ecosystem and planted 1,000 saplings in the Delhi-NCR region to make a positive impact on the environment in association with Sankalp Taru Foundation.

As part of creating a positive impact on the environment, SHARP recently initiated a Community Land Plantation Program in the Aravalli hill range located in the Delhi-NCR region in association with the Sankalp Taru Foundation by planting 1000 saplings consisting of native trees of heavy foliage variety along with fruit and flowering trees. This initiative will help in revitalising and rejuvenating the ecosystem of the region along with providing shelter and fodder to the various plants and animals dependent on inhabiting the region.

As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), SHARP has contributed towards the objective of supporting, Fight against Covid19, Environment, Education, Employment, Gender Equality and Pollution Control in India in the year 2020. We are proud to associate with various NGOs and Government organisations to support the cause.

 

 

The Roti Foundation Mumbai

SHARP contributed to the ROTI Foundation- Mumbai and helped distribute 13,750 meals to migrant labour, daily wage workers and slum-dwelling kids in several areas of Mumbai. SHARP whole-heartedly supports the cause and has joined hands in this fight against hunger, poverty, and malnutrition. The foundation aims to reduce hunger, malnutrition, and food wastage by collecting excess food from households, party venues and other locations and distributing them amongst the unprivileged.

 

EKAL ABHIYAN

SHARP is proud to associate with Ekal Abhiyan, by supporting Ekal Vidyalayas in rural areas through Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad. We believe in educating young minds in the rural and tribal areas of India. In the year 2020 we are able to educate 1565 children in 50 schools in various districts of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Ekal Abhiyan promotes education in the rural and tribal areas of India.

 

Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute

SHARP contributed to the fight against Covid-19 by supporting Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute in West Bengal, by setting up RTPCR based COVID-19 testing lab. The laboratory became functional on 22nd December 2020 and has tested approximately 2000 samples. These samples were then cross-checked by Swasthya Bhawan (Govt. of West Bengal) to provide accurate results. The institute is one of the premier cancer research and treatment institutes in the country and has also taken charge of this fight against COVID-19.

 

Youth4Jobs- Enabling and Empowering India s’ Disabled Youth

SHARP collaborated with Youth4Jobs foundation and managed to train and place 36 youth in various companies like IBM, OLX Auto, Vishal Megamart, Amazon and others from October 2020 to March 2021. The foundation focuses on educating, training and providing employment to differently abled youth of India.

 

Society for Action in Community (SACH)

During the ongoing pandemic SHARP along with the Society for Action in Community Health (SACH) and Times of India distributed COVID-19 Medical kit among the transgender community. This initiative was carried out in various parts of Delhi like Moolchand, Punjabi Bagh, South Ex, Chirag Delhi etc. 1404 kits were distributed on 30th March 2021. Each kit contained masks, sanitisers and a pack of juice. SHARP intends to support this project to facilitate better medical services among the transgender community in their fight against COVID-19.

 

Society for Action in Community (SACH)

Mass Urban Afforestation

SHARP proudly undertook the mass afforestation project in correspondence with the Society for Action in Community Health (SACH) and Times of India. As a part of the project, 1000 trees of various species were planted at South Delhi Bio-Diversity Park, DND Flyway on March 21, 2021. The aim of the project is to plant trees with one year of maintenance and an 80% survival rate. This was done to combat the adverse effects of deforestation. SHARP along with SACH intends to create a sustainable environment and build a greener planet.

 

SHARP strongly believes that a company cannot succeed, if society fails around it. That is why, in addition to our mission to be a No 1 Quality Brand in India by providing Reliable, Durable and Efficient Office and Visual Products to have “simply better business” and Home Products to have “simply better life” for our customers. We strive to make it a reality for all sections of society, through a robust Corporate Social Responsibility program.

 

Focus areas and objectives of our CSR policy constitute actions against major developmental issues facing the nation and SHARP believes that with targeted action, we can create a more equitable society for all Indians, regardless of gender, caste, economic background or origin.

To achieve the goals of our CSR policy effectively, it is important to collaborate with those who share our vision. With fruitful collaboration with NGOs, collaboration with government entities and contribution to key government financial schemes such as the Clean Ganga Fund and Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, it is possible to increase the impact of our actions many fold.

 

KAGAKURU Project

SHARP supports to KAGAKURU Project an initiative towards teaching Science to Street Children. CHETNA a well-known child rights organization in India has joined hands for prestigious research on skill development and book publishing for primary and secondary level education in India. Chetna NGO committed to assess the pre and post knowledge base of Street Children and educate them as junior street educators. Junior Street Educators will share their knowledge to surrounded children and parents, thus spreading education in under privileged street communities.

 

The Roti Foundation Mumbai

SHARP contributes to and supports the Roti Foundation, a non-profit food rescue organization based in Mumbai. At the heart of their mission is the Mumbai Roti Bank, that collects excess food from households, hospitals, party venues and others, and distributes them in underprivileged communities at no cost. In addition, freshly made food is distributed in locations such as the Tata Cancer Hospital and Drona Foundation School in Dharavi. With a presence in many Mumbai slum areas such as Dharavi, Mankhurd, Trombay and Vikroli, the Roti Foundation is bridging the gap between hunger and excess food with the support of SHARP.

 

Ekal Abhiyan

SHARP is proud to contribute to Ekal Abhiyan, by supporting Ekal Vidyalayas in rural areas through Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad_The Ekal Vidyalaya movement has reached over 23.65,000 students in more than 88,000 villages throughout India. Aside from literacy, Ekal education focuses on health and hygiene, empowerment, vocational skill development on computer literacy, organic farming, tailoring and the moral and ethical values of Ekal Abhiyan.

 

High Altitude Air Pollution Monitoring – Munnar

Indian Institute of Technology– Madras (IIT-M)

In furtherance to our community development intervention for Environmental sustainability SHARP India is proud to contribute to set up High Altitude Cloud Physics Observatory Pollution Monitoring Laboratory at high altitude site of, Munnar, Kerala – a project by Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) is an Institution of National Importance set up by an Act of Parliament. Laboratory at high altitude site at Munnar, Kerala has will be established with an objective to access the implications of anthropogenic emissions on regional climate by means of episodic investigations. Ultimately the data collected from this observatory will benefit the society through the improvements in the modeling and forecasting of atmospheric natural hazards in tropics.

 

PM-CARES Fund

SHARP India announced contribution to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Trust (PM-CARES) Fund to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Besides this, SHARP India supplied 24 units of its state-of-the-art air purifier (FP-F40E-W) to civil surgeon hospitals in Panchkula and Gurgaon in Haryana for providing safe and clean hospital wards for medical staff and patients. “With COVID-19 spreading throughout the world, SHARP assists and intends support to fellow citizens in this time of great need.

 

Clean Ganga Fund

Clean Ganga Fund is an initiative towards Environmental Sustainability and maintaining quality of water. River Ganga has been the source of physical and spiritual sustenance of Indian civilization for millennia. To the Indian mind, River Ganga is living Goddess. Millions of Indian Citizens depend on River Ganga water but still there are critical concerns like untreated sewage, industrial waste, reduced flow and rampant underground water withdrawals affect millions of people who depend on the Ganga’s water. SHARP contributed to Clean Ganga Fund and took initiative for Nurturing Ganga back to life & creating a safe & better ecosystem.

 

Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund

SHARP Contributes to Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The resources of the PMNRF are utilized to render immediate relief to families of those killed in natural calamities like floods, cyclones and earthquakes, etc. and to the victims of the major accidents and riots. Assistance from PMNRF is also rendered, to partially defray the expenses for medical treatment like heart surgeries, kidney transplantation, cancer treatment and acid attack etc.
